Which draft is the last draft?

It’s a challenging question. Every novel writer wants to have their manuscript completed and ready for querying.

The correct answer is: stop messing with it. Find a place that’s good enough and call it good. You’ve gone through it, grammar checked it, had beta readers give you feedback. It’s go time, people.

You’re always going to want to give it another run through. Because when you do, you always find something you can change that is worded just a little better or flows just a bit better.

but that will never end. I had rewritten mine seven times when I decided just to go ahead and get it edited, and I was so worried about what she would think I rewrote each section before I sent it to her. Then I got her edits, and completed those, but some of them suggested changes during the story before the conclusion, so I went back and rewrote a large portion of it again to meet those asks. Then I completed all the edits at the end.

So now, for all intents and purposes, it’s done. I can’t keep going back through it over and over because that will never end. Tomorrow I will begin querying, no matter what.

I don’t care if there’s an eclipse. Watch out, agent inboxes.
