Whoa! It's been a minute since I wrote a blog post on this website of mine.
2023 was such a bad year. Not the worst I've had, but not great. I lost my dog, separated from my partner of 33 years, and have been dealing with increasing seizures. Not to mention worsening back problems.
Sorry for whining.
The good news is I had three anthologies release last year with my stories included in them. I've gotten two more acceptances in anthologies that will be released this year. I have several shorts I plan to submit to some mags, trying to go a different direction.
I have rewritten my trilogy for the 8th time! When I wrote the first draft five years ago, I was arrogant. I thought I'd written the perfect story. Little did I know just how much I had to learn about writing good fiction back then. Writing short stories and getting feedback and editing on them really helped a lot.
Rewriting my own first novel, realizing just where it needed to be improved was an exercise in writing well. I think it's a good book now (the first one) and it's getting a solid polish by a very good editor. As soon as she's done I can query!
In the meantime I'll be rewriting the second book and then the third. I'm very happy with them, but they need to be better.
Up next, I'm working on a dystopian YA that will slot nicely into the horror genre as well, I believe. I'm also going to be working on a nonfiction novella.
Exciting things ahead. Here's hoping 2024 is a much better year!
