Children live in joy.
And anger, and sadness, and all their emotions so openly.
Adults smile indulgently and then squash them. Teach them that it’s unacceptable to show those emotions in public; that they must ‘control’ themselves and conduct themselves with a modicum of ‘dignity’.
But I disagree. Honestly, the movie Elf is one of my favorite movies. While it is funny and entertaining, I am overwhelmed with emotion at Buddy’s spirit and his open emotions in public. We should all be so free.
I have realized, as I’ve gotten older, that I no longer care what people think, and that I want to live with abandon. To feel wonder, and express joy, and be open with my emotions. It’s not childlike to express these feelings; it’s human. There is no shame in this behavior.
It’s freeing.
