Bigotry uses the law to violate the LGBT community

A judge in Texas recently ruled on a lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act that will affect preventative health care. Preventative health is imperative. Similar to maintaining your vehicles or your home, your body requires safety and regular checks to ensure your continued health.

This decision affects cancer screenings, contraception, and a medication known as PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis. This medication inhibits the transmission of HIV.

The challenger for this suit is, of course, an employer claiming that requiring the provision of prEP violates their religious freedom. To decide it is legal to allow employers to deny anyone of access to preventative care is a violation of the ACA.

Also, this ruling is a direct support of bigotry. Telling the country that homophobia and hate are acceptable is dead wrong. Judging people based on sexual preference and denying them access to medication that prevents the transmission of HIV is wrong. Cisgender heterosexuals can also use prEP to prevent the transmission of HIV, so stop judging queer and gay people as “dirty”. We aren’t; that’s religion’s influence of shame on society.

This ruling will now become the mainstay for any other cases across the country, until it is challenged and overturned. The Biden administration must file suit for a violation of the ACA in order to fight this.

The overturning of Roe v Wade was just the beginning, as I and many others predicted. Bigotry is now supported by the courts; just as violation of body autonomy was a short time ago. What is next?
